THE ANSWER BEFORE THE UNBOXING

A black PS5 for launch day.
A GTA VI bundle?

Sony has announced a Midnight Black, Japanese-only PS5 Digital Edition for November 19, 2026. GTA VI is scheduled for the same day. Sony’s product contents do not list GTA VI, so this announcement should not be read as a console-and-game bundle.

The timing is real. Sony’s October 13 Japanese PlayStation Blog announcement names the new hardware and its schedule; Rockstar’s GTA VI site supplies the game date. Coverage such as Dexerto’s October 13 report connects the two. That makes this a current buying question, rather than a reason to invent a themed edition.

The distinction matters if you were waiting for a console offer before deciding how to play. A matching date can make two purchases convenient. It cannot tell you whether the game is included, whether your existing account works, or whether a different-looking case changes performance. Those answers live in different parts of the product listing.

This report follows those parts in order: the objects on the table, the prices on the receipt, then the account you intend to use. For the broader platform schedule, keep our GTA VI release-date guide alongside it.

The console

Sony lists the Midnight Black Japanese-only Digital Edition at ¥55,000 including tax. The product listing includes a controller and ASTRO’s PLAYROOM; it does not list GTA VI.

THE BOX HAS AN INVENTORY

Look for the game
on the list.

Sony’s official product page identifies the black model as CFI-2200B02S, with an 825GB SSD. The listed contents include the console, a DualSense controller, horizontal feet, cables, printed materials and the preinstalled ASTRO’s PLAYROOM. GTA VI does not appear in that inventory.

That is a specific conclusion about this listed model. It is not a prediction that a retailer will never package a console and game together. If a store offers its own promotion, read that listing as a separate offer: exact console, game edition, delivery method, price and conditions. A social image of the two products beside each other is not a substitute for those terms.

Our interactive display deliberately uses a plain game card rather than drawing a fake GTA-branded console box. The empty space between the objects is the point: hardware, a game licence and an accessory need not come from the same purchase.

A further detail can disappear in a short headline: the drive is optional hardware. Sony’s installation guidance says the supported drive must be paired with the console using an internet connection during setup. Adding it does not itself supply any game. For GTA VI’s own retail format, read our boxed copies report before equating a box with a disc.

THREE DATES / THREE DIFFERENT EVENTS

WHAT A PRICE COMPARISON CAN MISS

A converted price
is an incomplete plan.

A yen headline is easy to turn into an attractive number in another currency. That number still leaves the most important question unanswered: is this the right model for the account and location you intend to use? This calculator deliberately stops at Japanese listed prices. It is not an estimate of an overseas delivered cost.

Start with the product fit before comparing a possible saving. Shipping, seller terms and any costs associated with importing would be another calculation, with inputs from the actual seller and destination. Guessing them here would make a precise-looking total less useful.

The same principle applies to extras. If you only need a digital game licence, putting an optional drive in the basket does not make that licence more complete. If you own supported disc games, the drive may be a separate decision for that library. Work backwards from what you intend to use rather than filling every empty line on a shopping list.

Neither our display nor the calculator takes an order. For purchase fulfilment and activation, our pre-order and code-redemption guide follows the difference between placing an order, receiving a code and having the game in your library.

04 / THE ACCOUNT CHECK

The small print
comes first.

Follow the branch that matches your situation. This is a decision map, not a location detector.

you buying for?
YOUR NEXT CHECK

Read the model, then the receipt.

This matches the announced region condition. Confirm the Japanese-only console interface suits you, then verify the exact retailer SKU and separate game purchase. Game languages depend on the title; a console-language label is not a complete list of GTA VI audio and subtitle options.

Read Sony’s model support ↗

Sony’s support page for the Japanese-only model makes two restrictions explicit: the console interface is Japanese-only, and the supported account country/region is Japan. It also says user data linked to other account regions cannot be transferred or restored to this model.

That makes “I can read Japanese” and “my existing account works” different checks. A familiar interface does not move purchases or saved progress into a compatible account. Read the account condition before treating this as a cosmetic alternative to the machine sold in your own market.

The support page also says in-game language availability varies by title. Do not turn the console’s interface restriction into a claim that every game has exactly the same audio or subtitle options. Verify the particular GTA VI listing you would buy.

Sony describes the model as intended for Japan and advises against use overseas. Our guidance here follows that stated scope; it does not offer a workaround for the restrictions. For a reader outside Japan, the useful comparison starts with officially supported local models.

05 / THE PERFORMANCE QUESTION

Black is a finish.
It is not a frame rate.

Sony’s Japanese-only-model support page describes performance equivalent to PS5. The new colour announcement does not establish an extra GTA VI graphics mode, a different frame-rate target or a reason to treat this as a PS5 Pro.

A product photograph can tell you about its appearance. A specification can identify hardware. A game performance claim needs evidence about that game on that hardware. Those are different kinds of information, even when they appear together in a shopping headline.

For the actual console comparison, use our PS5 Pro and GTA VI frame-rate report . For install planning, use our download-size and storage guide . The advertised SSD capacity is not a promise that the whole number will be available for games, and it does not reveal GTA VI’s eventual space requirement.

Nor does a new console colour answer multiplayer questions. If your purchase depends on joining friends, our GTA VI Online report keeps the announced single-player release, reported multiplayer timing and crossplay policies separate. The game you plan to play matters more than the photograph of the machine.

BEFORE YOU RESERVE ONE

Three lines to check.
No guessing required.

  1. The model. Does the exact SKU match the language, account and market you intend to use?

  2. The contents. Is GTA VI explicitly included by that seller, or are you buying it separately? Which edition and delivery method?

  3. The reason. Are you choosing the appearance, replacing hardware or seeking better performance? Check the evidence for that specific decision.

November 19 gives this story its timing. The product list gives it its answer. Sony has announced a black console alongside the game’s release day; the buyer still needs to read the two purchases separately.
