GTA V is reported to leave the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog on November 17, 2026—two calendar days before GTA VI’s scheduled launch. If you play through that catalog, installing it now does not turn the subscription access into a separate purchase.
Push Square’s Liam Croft reported the date on October 14, describing a PS5 system notification that promotes playing GTA V while waiting for GTA VI. The report links to a community-posted image of that message. We are attributing the departure date to that reporting; we have not reproduced the notice on a signed-in PS5 or verified a worldwide removal hour.
The separate launch date comes from Rockstar’s current GTA VI page: November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Two dates close together can make a neat headline. They do not create a bundle, transfer a purchase or establish that the new game joins a subscription.
The useful question is what changes for your particular copy. Are you using the catalog? Did you buy the same version separately? Were you streaming rather than playing a local installation? A library tile can hide those distinctions. This feature pulls them apart before you decide whether to download, purchase or move a save.

Read the model without 3D
Before departure, the example has catalog permission. After departure, that permission ends even if files remain. Choosing a separate purchase restores the model’s permission; removing its files still prevents a launch. The save vault stays separate throughout. None of these choices grants GTA VI.
Game files: The blocks represent an installation. Removing them in this model frees no real storage and deletes no real save.
Permission: The barrier represents the entitlement. Change the date and purchase route to see why an installed title can still be unavailable.
Saved progress: The separate vault represents saved progress. It is not a backup indicator. Check your actual saves and sync status on the console.
A download is a delivery.
It is not every right to the game.
Sony’s current PlayStation Plus usage terms say downloaded subscription games remain playable while the subscription is valid and the game remains in the service. The terms also say availability varies with factors including region, tier and device. That is why the model closes the catalog gate after departure even when its stack of files stays in place.
The animation is intentionally modest: one barrier moves, rather than the whole miniature vanishing. It makes a missing permission visible without pretending the console has erased everything. The separate-purchase option changes the assumed entitlement; it is not a checkout button and does not unlock anything on your account.
Then remove the model’s files. Even an open gate is not a complete local installation. Our GTA VI storage guide covers the other side of that problem: download size, installed footprint and free space are different measurements. Do not delete saves just because you want room for a new game.
This model is limited to the story-mode access question. It does not simulate network availability, console sharing, parental controls, regional accounts or every licensing error. Online play adds another requirement: Sony lists online multiplayer as a PlayStation Plus benefit. A separate game purchase should not be mistaken for an answer to every online-access question.

look for the receipt.
If you remember buying GTA V, start with that record. Sony’s transaction-history guide explains how to inspect PlayStation Store purchases. On PS5, it directs you through Settings, Users and Accounts, Account, then Payment and Subscriptions to Transaction History. Pick the date range and inspect the transaction details.
Make the question specific: which account, which platform, which product? “I own GTA” can mean a different release, a different store or a different mode. A familiar cover image does not settle those details. If the record and the version you are trying to launch disagree, investigate that mismatch before paying for another copy.

If a message offers to “preserve” your access by handing over your login or installing an unfamiliar launcher, pause. A save is your place in the story. Treat its location as a separate question from whether the game tile launches.
Sony’s save-and-transfer guidance distinguishes downloaded games, whose saves are stored on the console, from streamed games, whose saves are stored on PlayStation’s service. It says saves are not automatically transferred between streamed and downloaded games; its guide explains moving them through cloud storage.
That distinction matters if you have been streaming your replay and now plan to install a purchased copy. Do not assume that seeing the game twice means both versions are reading the same progress. Use the instructions for your actual game format and device.
For PS5 saves, Sony’s cloud-storage guide provides a sync-status check: highlight the game, press Options and choose Check Sync Status of Saved Data. The same guide distinguishes PS5 auto-sync from PS4 auto-upload. A setting being enabled and a particular save being up to date are different observations.
Sony’s 2022 PlayStation Plus explainer says that buying a title after it leaves can let you access its saved data again, provided you have not deleted that data. This is general service guidance, not a guarantee that every edition, platform conversion or streaming save transfers without a separate step.
Follow Sony’s guide for the direction you need. This diagram is not a live sync indicator or a promise of cross-version compatibility.

Does this put GTA VI
on PlayStation Plus?
The departure report does not establish that. Nor does a PlayStation-branded promotion beside a preorder button. The current official GTA VI page reviewed here lists the release date and consoles; it does not make the reported GTA V catalog change into a GTA VI subscription announcement.
PS Plus and Rockstar’s GTA+ are different services. Take-Two’s June 24 preorder announcement described a month of GTA+ with digital preorders and access to GTA V through the GTA+ Games Library. That is a different offer from PlayStation’s catalog. Check its current eligibility, activation and expiry terms; do not assume it begins on the day you want it or lasts indefinitely. The departure report is not evidence that GTA V disappears from every service.
Sony’s current Plus overview separates Monthly Games from the Game Catalog and says some catalog titles have publicised end dates. “Added to my library” is therefore an incomplete description of how access was obtained. Check the benefit attached to the title.

Does downloading GTA V before November 17 let me keep catalog access?
No. Sony’s usage terms attach playability to both a valid subscription and the game remaining in the service. A download is not a separate purchase.
Is November 17 a confirmed lockout hour in my timezone?
No hour has been verified for this feature. The cited report supplies a calendar date. Check the local listing and account notice; the model does not count down to a global midnight.
Does the reported departure cancel a copy I bought separately?
The report concerns Game Catalog availability. Check the exact separately purchased product and account before assuming that you need to buy again.
Will GTA V saves become GTA VI saves?
This feature establishes no such transfer. Continuing the same game after an entitlement change is a different question from moving progress into a new game.
Should I buy a copy now just because it is leaving?
